Localization testing so a product feels written for each market

Translated words are not a localized product. We check that text fits, formats are right, scripts render and the experience makes sense for the people in each market, with language reviewers, confirmed per project, on the parts only a person can judge.

Overview

What it is. Localization testing verifies that a product works correctly and reads naturally for a specific language and region: translated text, layout, formats, input handling, legal and regional content and cultural fit.

Who it is for. Products launching in new markets, platforms serving multilingual audiences, and teams preparing release in right-to-left languages or markets with particular formatting rules.

Why it matters

The problem it addresses. Translation is only one part of localization. Layouts break, formats are wrong, strings are assembled from fragments that make no sense, and regional content is missing or out of date.

When it matters most. Before launching a market, whenever new languages or regions are added, and when content changes frequently.

What happens without it. Users meet truncated buttons, wrong date and currency formats, mixed-language screens and unnatural wording, and conclude the product is not meant for them.

What we test

  • Internationalization readiness

hard-coded text, concatenated strings, encoding, locale handling

  • Layout and text expansion

    truncation, overflow, wrapping, font coverage

  • Formats

dates, times, numbers, currency, addresses, phone numbers, names, sorting

  • Input handling for local keyboards, scripts and validation rules

  • Regional content

presence and correctness of agreed legal, tax or market-specific text

How UpDoer approaches Localization Testing

  1. Understand

Requirements, tickets, code diffs and product context.

We gather the target markets, languages, style guides and glossaries, and learn what has already gone wrong in earlier launches.

  2. Risk Mapping

Where a failure would cost the most.

We rank markets and screens by launch priority and exposure, with checkout, onboarding and legal content at the top.

  3. Test Strategy

    Coverage chosen, test cases drafted.

We plan a pseudo-localization pass, the language and region matrix, reviewer needs and what is agreed as in scope for regional content.

  4. Execute

    Manual and automated testing runs.

Functional, visual and linguistic checks run per locale, including layout checks with expanded text.

  5. AI-Assisted Quality Engineering

    Failures classified, release risk scored.

AI finds untranslated strings, placeholder mismatches and truncated or overflowing text in screenshots, so reviewers start from a short list.

  6. Human Verification

A QA engineer checks every flagged result.

Language reviewers, confirmed per project, judge naturalness, tone and cultural fit, and QA engineers confirm whether each issue is a text, layout or logic defect.

  7. Report & Improve

The verified quality signal, then better coverage.

Results are reported per locale with screenshots and fix owners, and findings update the glossary and the localization checklist.

Where AI helps

  • Grouping issues by string source so one fix clears many screens.

How we use AI: AI can accelerate test design, analysis and repetitive QA work, but important outputs remain subject to human review and validation. It informs the release decision; it does not make it.

Where humans matter

  • Judging whether wording is natural, polite and appropriate for the audience.
  • Recognising cultural issues in imagery, colour, humour, names and examples.
  • Deciding whether a layout compromise is acceptable for a language that needs more room.
  • Checking that agreed regional text is present, without offering legal advice.
  • Prioritising which language issues block a launch.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages can you test?

The language set depends on the reviewers available for your project. We confirm native-language coverage for each target market during scoping, and say so plainly when a language cannot be covered.

Can AI check translation quality?

AI helps with mechanical faults such as missing strings and broken placeholders. Judging naturalness and cultural fit needs a native-language reviewer.

Do you check legal text?

We check that the legal and regional text you specify appears correctly in each market. We do not give legal advice or confirm legal sufficiency.

What is pseudo-localization?

A test build in which text is replaced with expanded, accented placeholders, so hard-coded strings and layout limits show up before real translations arrive.
